one of them days

Slept funny, woke up with a sore upper back–I almost never get that. Makes it hard to focus, but we’re here, showing up for ourselves, maintaining consistency, all that good stuff.

Shared my collection of automatic drawings with a friend, a fellow illustrator with years of experience in similar fields. He asked if I’d ever considered doing murals, and I answered no, I have not, but I can see why he’d ask that as I had a similar thought when I scanned over my work yesterday. I wouldn’t be against it, although I’d rather collab with someone with experience so I can learn the ropes. Gotta admit, it felt good to share this stuff with people after years of privacy. So check this one out.

So it turns out you can find document properties in Procreate; I was just frustrated I couldn’t see the original data when I exported an PNG file. This image was created in February of 2020. At that point, I was in my final month of my 6-month stay in Chiang Mai, and feeling pretty good. Still not quite grasping the automatic drawing thing, so this one feels a bit spastic. Eyes are coming up again, along with a few more vehicles, more cloud-like forms, lips, teeth, a tongue, and a set of nipples. I also like drawing fat legs w/ a spiral kneecap pattern.

I’m a little antsy in wanting to share the newer automatic drawings, as they’ve become a lot more clear, a bit more confident, and a gentle balance of loose but a bit structured, too. Also toying around a bit with Nomad Sculpt, but not quite ready to share those experiments just yet. Sculpting in 3D is kind of weird, and contrary to my workflow in Blender, which is brute-force low poly stuff I can noodle over for ages. I like simple, direct, iconic shapes when it comes to character designs, but maybe my automatic drawings tell a different tale? Hmm
