something new (for you)

I’m not bullshitting when I say there’s a ton of stuff I whittle away on that just never sees the light of day. Lots of almost-baked ideas that I mood swing over for years; that kind of toxic relationship where you wake up one day and can’t get over how beautiful they are, and other days you wonder what the fuck you got yourself involved in and lowkey wish they never existed. (Don’t act like you don’t know what I’m talking about)

I made Mr. Hat back during those early lockdown days, where I got to spend more time with my (then) 6-year-old nephew than I ever have since. Sometimes I just made stuff to kill time, make him laugh, and just cut the monotony. Didn’t really do the sourdough baking thing, though I love the stuff, but there’s just something about wheat in the US that makes my guts mad.

Mr. Hat was the first character of mine I’d rigged up for animation (a big deal for me, at the time!) and I wanted to revisit him since I never finished his entire body. So here it is!

I’m debating whether I should give him 6 legs or just keep it at 4. When you animate these things, you really have to take into account range of motion, the potential for clipping, all that stuff. I could get him to walk well enough as it is, but something tells me a few more legs would make Mr. Hat funnier when he’s stomping around. I’ll finish him up one of these days!
